# What should men expect from an aesthetic consultation in Melbourne?

Aesthetic consultations for men should be private, respectful and clinically led. The appointment is an assessment and conversation, not a sales appointment. No treatment is performed or promised on the day. The aim is to understand your concerns, health, suitability, risks, limitations, alternatives and next steps before you decide.

What happens during a men’s aesthetic consultation?

You can explain what you have noticed, how long it has been present, what matters to you and what you would not want changed. You do not need clinical language or a prepared list.

The practitioner may discuss your health history, medicines, allergies, previous aesthetic or cosmetic care, relevant medical or dental conditions, skin concerns and any previous adverse reactions. Ask what information is needed and what might mean care should be delayed, changed, referred or not undertaken.

Facial assessment considers movement, structure, skin, proportion and expression together. A responsible consultation does not assume that every visible line or feature needs treatment. It should explain what may or may not be suitable in plain language and give you time to decide.

How is facial assessment individualised?

Men have varied facial structures, skin, hair patterns, movement and personal preferences. Broad descriptions should never replace person-by-person assessment. Preserving natural expression and facial character may be an important priority, and a practitioner may recommend a conservative approach, another form of care or no treatment.

If facial hair or shaving affects the area being discussed, ask whether this changes preparation or aftercare. Your own features and health history matter more than a standard formula.

What concerns can be discussed?

Men may seek advice about expression lines, facial balance, chin or jawline concerns, lips, under-eye changes, skin quality, hydration, texture or sweating. A consultation should clarify whether the concern is aesthetic, medical, dental or better managed through another form of care.

You can ask whether the issue relates to skin, movement, structure, health or a combination. You can also ask what alternatives exist, including skin care, monitoring, referral or no treatment. The consultation should not create pressure to treat a normal feature.

How does Core Aesthetics approach consultations for men?

Core Aesthetics offers a Male Aesthetic Consultation for men who want a calm, private conversation about their concerns. A New Patient Consultation or Aesthetic Consultation can also be a suitable starting point, while a Treatment Suitability Assessment can help if you have a treatment idea but are unsure whether it fits your needs and priorities.

As the clinic grows, care is provided by appropriately qualified practitioners working within their current scope and the clinic’s clinical governance arrangements.

Consultation comes before any treatment decision. A recommendation may be to proceed, wait, seek referral or choose no treatment. No outcome is guaranteed, and there is no obligation to book treatment.

What risks and limitations should you discuss?

Ask for a plain-language explanation of the expected effects, limitations, common temporary reactions and less common but serious complications relevant to the proposed care. Ask who would assess you, who would perform any treatment, how clinical responsibility is managed and what follow-up is available.

Ask what could make care unsuitable, how concerns are managed after an appointment, who to contact if something does not feel right and when urgent medical attention may be needed. Results vary between individuals and cannot be promised.

What aftercare and follow-up apply?

If treatment later proceeds, you should receive clear written and verbal aftercare, including what may be normal, what to avoid and when to contact the clinic. Ask how reviews, concerns, referrals and privacy are handled.

A Post-Treatment Review can be used to discuss questions after care. Further review or referral should be considered when appropriate rather than assumed. Consent remains ongoing, and you can pause or decline at any stage.

How can you choose a safe provider?

Check that the practitioner is currently registered with Ahpra and ask who will personally assess and treat you. Ask how your information and photographs are handled, how consent is recorded and how risks, limitations and alternatives are explained.

Be cautious of pressure, urgency, inducements, guaranteed results or claims that one approach suits everyone. A safe consultation should feel calm, allow questions and make no-treatment and referral options clear.
