# What is a treatment suitability assessment and why does it matter?

A treatment suitability assessment near Carnegie is a consultation-led opportunity to understand your concerns, discuss your health and decide whether an aesthetic option is appropriate for you. It is not a promise that treatment will be recommended. A safe outcome may be a treatment plan, a different option, a referral, a review later, or no treatment.

What is assessed before treatment?

The practitioner should listen to what you want to change in your own words, then review relevant health information. This may include current medicines and supplements, allergies, previous aesthetic or medical care, skin or health conditions, and any factors that may affect healing or risk. Your questions, expectations and reasons for considering treatment are also relevant. A consultation should be individualised rather than based on a generic checklist.

The purpose is to decide whether an option is suitable for your circumstances, whether the likely benefits justify the possible risks, and whether another approach or referral is more appropriate. Suitability is decided case by case and can change if your health, medicines or goals change.

What should the consultation explain?

Before you make a decision, you should receive clear information about the proposed option, its limitations, possible risks, expected recovery or aftercare, alternatives and the option of doing nothing. The discussion should be understandable and allow time for questions. You should not feel pressured to proceed on the day, and you can change your mind before treatment.

If a concern sits outside the clinic’s scope, or your health history makes a proposed option unsuitable, a responsible practitioner may recommend medical, dental or other specialist review. Referral or no treatment is a valid clinical outcome. It is part of putting safety and your interests ahead of a predetermined result.

What happens after an assessment?

The outcome should be explained in a way you can understand. You may leave with information to consider, a documented treatment plan, a recommendation to seek another opinion, or a decision to wait. If treatment is considered later, consent remains an ongoing process and should be confirmed again when appropriate. Aftercare and follow-up should be discussed before you commit.
