## Summary

What treatment can feel like while settling, what can vary, what not to do and which symptoms should prompt clinic contact or urgent care.

## Page Content

Quick summary

While treatment settles, an area may feel firm, tender, swollen, slightly uneven or more noticeable than expected. These sensations can change as swelling settles, but worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, unusual skin colour change, visual symptoms or symptoms that feel out of proportion need prompt advice. Do not massage, press or self correct unless Corey Anderson RN specifically instructed you to do so.

## What settling sensations need attention?

Use this guide to describe symptoms clearly. It does not replace your aftercare instructions or medical advice.

Question or sign
Why it matters
Responsible next step

Firmness or tenderness
Can occur while tissue settles after treatment.
Monitor timing and follow individual aftercare.

Unevenness or swelling
May change as swelling changes over days.
Do not press or massage unless instructed.

Worsening pain or redness
Can signal a need for clinical advice.
Contact the clinic promptly.

Vision symptoms or unsafe symptoms
Can be medically urgent.
Seek urgent medical care first.

## Why can settling feel strange?

The treated area can feel different because tissue has been handled, swelling can develop, bruising may form and the area may be more noticeable while you are monitoring it closely. Timing varies by area, prior treatment and individual healing.

## What should you avoid doing yourself?

Do not massage, press, heat, roll, stretch or try to flatten an area unless you were specifically instructed to do so. Self correction can make assessment harder and may be inappropriate for some symptoms or treatment areas.

## Why Settling Can Feel Strange

After treatment, the treated area can feel different because the tissue has been handled, swelling can develop, bruising may form and the area may be more noticeable simply because you are paying close attention to it.

That awareness can be unsettling. It does not automatically mean something has gone wrong, but it also should not be dismissed if symptoms are worsening or unusual.

## Common Sensations During Settling

Some people notice firmness, tenderness, swelling, small irregularities, tightness, mild bruising or a sense that the area feels more present than usual. The face may also look uneven while swelling settles at different rates.

These changes should generally move in the right direction. If they are becoming more painful, more swollen, hotter, redder or more unusual over time, the plan changes from watchful waiting to prompt contact.

## Timing Is Only A Guide

Many early settling sensations are most noticeable in the first few days. Swelling and tenderness often reduce over the first week, although timing varies by person, treatment area, previous treatment history and individual healing.

Do not make big decisions about whether an area needs more treatment, less treatment or correction while early swelling is still changing. Review timing should be guided by the practitioner and by the symptom pattern.

## Area Differences Matter

The lips, cheeks, lower face and under-eye area can all settle differently. Highly mobile or delicate areas may feel more noticeable. Areas with thinner tissue need particular caution because changes can be more visible and symptoms may need earlier review.

This is one reason general timelines are limited. Corey assesses the specific area, not just the number of days since treatment.

## What Not To Do

Do not massage, press, heat, roll, stretch or try to flatten the treated area unless you have been specifically instructed to do so. Self-correction can make assessment harder and may worsen irritation or swelling.

If something feels wrong, contact the clinic. This is a better plan than crowd-sourcing urgent aftercare from the internet, which is rarely famous for calm clinical nuance.

## Symptoms That Need Prompt Advice

Contact the clinic promptly if you notice severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing swelling, fever, skin colour change, mottled or dusky skin, unusual numbness, new vision symptoms, severe headache or any symptom that feels out of proportion.

If symptoms feel urgent or you cannot reach the clinic, seek urgent medical care. A general page should never delay care for severe, worsening or unusual symptoms.

## When Review Is Useful

A review is useful when a sensation persists beyond the expected settling window, when asymmetry is not improving, when a lump or firmness changes, when you are unsure whether something is expected, or when previous treatment history makes the picture less clear.

Review does not automatically mean correction. It means Corey can assess what is happening and discuss reassurance, time, aftercare changes, referral or correction options where appropriate.

## Previous Treatment Can Change The Picture

Previous treatment can affect how an area feels and settles. If you have had treatment elsewhere, bring dates, area details, records if available and photos that show how the concern has changed over time.

This helps Corey understand whether the issue relates to ordinary settling, tissue history, previous treatment, a new concern or something that needs review beyond cosmetic planning.

## Frequently asked questions

What can treatment feel like while settling?

It may feel firm, tender, swollen, slightly uneven or more noticeable than expected. These sensations often change as swelling settles, but worsening, painful, red, hot or unusual symptoms should be raised with the clinic.

Is firmness after treatment always a problem?

No. Firmness can occur during settling. It needs review when it is persistent, worsening, painful, red, hot, associated with skin colour change or different from the aftercare pattern Corey explained at your appointment.

How long does settling take?

Timing varies by person, area treated, previous treatment and individual healing. Early swelling often changes over days, but review timing should follow practitioner advice and the symptom pattern rather than a fixed online timeline.

Can I massage the area if it feels uneven?

Do not massage, press or try to flatten the area unless Corey specifically instructed you to do so. Contact the clinic if you are unsure, especially if the area feels increasingly painful, hot, discoloured or unusual.

When should I contact the clinic promptly?

Contact the clinic for severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing swelling, fever, skin colour change, unusual numbness, vision symptoms, severe headache or symptoms that feel out of proportion.

When should urgent care come first?

Seek urgent medical care first for visual symptoms, breathing difficulty, collapse, severe or rapidly worsening pain, unusual skin colour change, severe swelling, fever or symptoms that feel unsafe to wait on.

Can settling look worse before it looks clearer?

Early swelling or bruising can make an area look more noticeable while it settles. That does not mean you should ignore symptoms. Appearance changes and symptom severity need to be interpreted together.

How do I prepare for a review?

Write down timing, symptoms, medicines, recent activity and any photos taken in consistent lighting. This helps Corey interpret whether the pattern fits settling or needs further assessment.
