Lip filler treatment at Core Aesthetics uses prescription hyaluronic acid based dermal filler to refine lip shape, improve definition and restore subtle volume. Treatment is individually assessed with proportion and natural movement as the guiding principles rather than volume for its own sake.

Lip filler is one of the most requested treatments in cosmetic aesthetics. Done well, with a considered approach based on your individual lip anatomy and facial proportions, it can produce a result that looks natural, proportionate and genuinely like an improvement. Done without proper assessment, the result is the overfilled, unnatural appearance that many people are understandably concerned about before considering treatment.

At Core Aesthetics in Oakleigh, lip filler treatment is approached as a shape and proportion question first and a volume question second. Corey Anderson, AHPRA registered nurse (NMW0001047575), assesses your individual lip anatomy, facial proportions and goals before any recommendation is made. Nothing is administered without a clear, proportionate plan in place.

What Lip Filler Involves

Lip filler uses a prescription hyaluronic acid based dermal filler product placed within or beneath the lip tissue to refine its shape, improve definition, address asymmetry or restore volume. Hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and reversible, the product can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if required, which makes it a more flexible option than permanent alternatives.

The specific product, placement approach and volume used are determined entirely by your individual anatomy. There is no standard lip filler protocol that produces an appropriate result across different lip shapes, proportions and goals. The choice of product matters, different hyaluronic acid fillers have different firmness and flow characteristics and choosing the right one for your specific lip tissue and goals is a clinical decision your practitioner makes based on individual assessment.

The Importance of Shape Over Volume

The most natural and lasting lip filler results are built around shape and proportion, not volume. At Core Aesthetics, the assessment before any lip treatment considers the lip border, the cupid’s bow, the body of the upper and lower lips, how they relate to each other, and how they sit in the context of your overall lower face including the chin and the surrounding area.

For some clients, the primary goal is improved definition of the lip border. For others, it is restoring volume that has thinned with age. For others still, it is addressing asymmetry or improving overall proportion. Each requires a different placement approach. Conflating these goals, adding volume without addressing shape, is a common cause of results that look overdone. You can read more about our approach in our guide to lip shaping at Core Aesthetics and our overview of lip filler at Core Aesthetics.

Recovery and Aftercare

Swelling and bruising after lip filler are common and can take several days to settle. The lips are a sensitive area and swelling in the first 24 to 48 hours can make the result appear more pronounced than the final settled outcome. Your practitioner will discuss what the settling process looks like in realistic terms and provide specific aftercare instructions at your appointment. Plan your timing if you have important events in the week following treatment.
