Frown line treatment at Core Aesthetics uses prescription anti-wrinkle injectable product to temporarily reduce the activity of the corrugator supercilii and procerus muscles, softening the vertical creases between the brows. Treatment is individually assessed as part of a coordinated upper face approach.
Frown lines are the vertical creases that form between the eyebrows, often called the elevens due to their appearance as two parallel lines. They are one of the earliest and most persistent expression lines to develop in many faces, driven by the repeated brow furrowing associated with concentration, concern and squinting. For many people, well-established frown lines create a resting expression that reads as stern, tired or concerned regardless of actual emotional state.
At Core Aesthetics in Oakleigh, frown line treatment is assessed and performed by Corey Anderson, AHPRA registered nurse (NMW0001047575), as part of a full upper face consultation. Treatment is only recommended and administered where it is clinically appropriate for your individual anatomy and goals.
What Causes Frown Lines?
Frown lines are created primarily by two muscles: the corrugator supercilii, which pulls the brows toward the midline, and the procerus, which pulls brow tissue downward. Together these produce the downward and inward brow movement associated with frowning, concentration and squinting. Over years of repeated contraction, a vertical crease is progressively scored into the skin between the brows.
As skin elasticity diminishes with age, this crease persists at rest even when the muscles are relaxed, creating a static line rather than a purely dynamic one. In early presentation, the lines are only visible during active expression. Over time they become deeper and remain visible on a resting face. This progression is one reason why some clients consider preventative anti-wrinkle treatment before lines become deeply static.
How Frown Line Treatment Works
Frown line treatment uses a prescription injectable product to temporarily reduce the activity of the corrugator and procerus muscles. When these muscles contract less, the skin above them creases less, and the appearance of the vertical lines between the brows is softened. For dynamic lines, those visible only in expression, the result can be significant. For deeply static lines already visible at rest, the improvement is typically less complete, though combining anti-wrinkle treatment with carefully placed dermal filler may be discussed in those cases.
The product used is temporary. Nerve signalling gradually recovers over the following months and muscle activity returns to previous levels. This means treatment needs to be repeated to maintain its effect, and for some clients regular treatment over time may slow the deepening of established lines.
Frown Lines and the Upper Face as a Whole
The frown line muscles interact with the frontalis muscle that raises the brows. At Core Aesthetics, upper face treatment is always assessed as a coordinated system. Treating frown lines without considering forehead movement and brow position can produce an imbalanced result where the brow lifts higher than expected on the outer corners. Treating both areas together with appropriate dosing produces a more natural and symmetrical outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly do frown line results appear?
Anti-wrinkle treatment typically begins to take effect within a few days, with the full result visible at around two weeks.
Can frown line treatment affect my ability to raise my brows?
Frown line treatment targets the muscles pulling the brows inward and downward, not the frontalis which lifts them. When planned carefully it should not affect brow raising. Your practitioner will assess your anatomy during your consultation.
Can frown lines be treated with filler as well?
For deeply established static frown lines, filler may be discussed alongside anti-wrinkle treatment. Your practitioner will assess this during your consultation.
How long does frown line treatment last?
Duration varies between individuals. Your practitioner will discuss realistic timeframes during your consultation.
