Lip filler is a nonsurgical injectable treatment using prescription dermal filler to refine lip shape, improve definition and restore subtle volume. At Core Aesthetics in Oakleigh, all lip treatment is individually assessed with a focus on natural proportion rather than dramatic change.

Lip filler is one of the most requested treatments in cosmetic aesthetics and one of the most frequently done poorly. The difference between a result that looks natural and one that looks overdone almost always comes down to the planning stage, not the product. At Core Aesthetics in Oakleigh, lip treatment begins with understanding your face rather than simply adding volume.

Our approach is consultation led. Before anything is recommended, Corey will assess your lip anatomy, your facial proportions and your goals. Treatment is only discussed where it is clinically appropriate and only proceeds where there is a clear, proportionate plan in place. You can also explore our detailed page on lip shaping at Core Aesthetics.

What Lip Filler Involves

Lip filler is a category of dermal filler treatment that uses prescription hyaluronic acid based product to refine the shape, definition and volume of the lips. Placement, product choice and volume are determined by the individual anatomy of your lips and what looks proportionate in the context of your whole face.

At Core Aesthetics, lip filler is not a volume-first treatment. The question is never simply how much to add. It is where to place it, what product suits your tissue, and how to achieve the result you are describing in a way that suits your face at rest and in motion.

Shape and Proportion First

The most natural and lasting lip results are built around shape and proportion, not volume. This means assessing the border, the cupid’s bow, the body of the lip and how the upper and lower lips relate to each other, to the chin and to the surrounding area.

For some clients, the primary goal is improved definition of the lip border so lipstick sits cleanly. For others, it is restoring volume that has thinned with age. For others still, it is addressing asymmetry or improving overall proportion. Each of these requires a different approach, and conflating them produces results that please no one.

At Core Aesthetics, the lip consultation starts by understanding which of these goals you are describing, and then assessing whether and how it can be achieved for your specific anatomy. You can read more about the principles behind this in our article on natural looking injectable results.

What to Expect at Your Consultation

During your consultation, Corey will:

  • Assess your lip anatomy, including the border, symmetry, volume distribution and how your lips move with expression
  • Evaluate your facial proportions and how your lips relate to your nose, chin and overall lower face
  • Discuss your goals in plain language and give you an honest view of what a proportionate result looks like for your face
  • Review your medical history including any history of cold sores, which may affect planning and timing
  • Explain the treatment clearly, including product, volume, risks and aftercare
  • Answer your questions without pressure or obligation to proceed

Who May Be Suitable for Lip Filler?

Lip filler may be worth exploring at a consultation if you:

  • Feel the lip border looks unclear or that lipstick does not sit cleanly
  • Notice the lips have thinned or lost definition with age
  • Have an asymmetry in the lips you would like to address
  • Want subtle volume or shape improvement that remains proportionate to your face
  • Are in good general health with no contraindications to injectable prescription products

Lip filler is not appropriate for everyone and your practitioner will be honest if a different approach is more suitable. Certain circumstances, including active cold sores or specific medical conditions, may affect timing or suitability.

Recovery and Aftercare

Swelling and bruising after lip filler are common and can take several days to settle. The lips are a sensitive area and the final result takes time to become apparent. Your practitioner will provide specific aftercare guidance at your appointment. Plan the timing of your treatment carefully if you have events coming up.

How Lip Filler Relates to Overall Facial Balance

The lips do not exist in isolation. Their appearance is connected to the chin below them, the nose above and the overall lower face structure. Where chin projection is limited, the lips can appear more prominent than intended. Where the lower face lacks definition, lip treatment alone may not produce the result you are looking for.

If you are also considering jawline and chin treatment or nasolabial fold softening, these can all be assessed during the same consultation and a coordinated plan can be developed where appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does lip filler look natural?

When planned conservatively and based on your individual anatomy and facial proportions, lip filler aims to produce a balanced and natural looking result. At Core Aesthetics, the goal is always proportion and shape. Individual results vary and are discussed during your consultation.

How much lip filler will I need?

The appropriate volume depends on your current lip anatomy, your goals and what looks proportionate on your face. This is assessed during your consultation and a conservative approach is always taken. Dosing is not standardised.

Is lip filler painful?

Experiences vary. Lip tissue is sensitive and some discomfort is possible. Your practitioner will explain what to expect and can discuss comfort options during the appointment.

How long does lip filler last?

Duration varies between individuals and depends on the product used, volume placed and your metabolism. Your practitioner will discuss realistic timeframes during your consultation. You can also read our article on how long dermal filler lasts.

Can lip filler fix asymmetry?

In many cases subtle lip asymmetry can be improved with carefully placed filler. Whether this is achievable depends on the nature and degree of the asymmetry. Your practitioner will assess this during your consultation.

Is there downtime after lip filler?

Swelling and bruising are common and can take several days to fully settle. Your practitioner will provide specific aftercare instructions. Plan your timing if you have important events.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid based lip filler can be dissolved using hyaluronidase if required. Your practitioner will discuss this during your consultation.
