Core Aesthetics offers masseter treatment for Cheltenham residents at their Oakleigh clinic, approximately 13 minutes from Cheltenham Post Office. All treatment individually assessed by Corey Anderson, AHPRA registered nurse NMW0001047575.
The masseter is one of the most powerful muscles in the body relative to its size. In some people it is also one of the most visible, creating a wide, squared lower face shape that some clients find disproportionate to the rest of their features.
Masseter treatment with prescription anti wrinkle product reduces the bulk of the muscle over time, gradually narrowing the lower face and softening the jaw angle. For clients in Cheltenham considering this treatment, Core Aesthetics in Oakleigh is approximately 15 to 20 minutes north via Warrigal Road.
“The jaw change is not immediate. It is gradual. After six weeks people start noticing you look different but cannot say why.”
Understanding Masseter Hypertrophy
The masseter can enlarge for several reasons. Chronic teeth grinding (bruxism) is one of the most common drivers: the muscle strengthens through repeated use in the same way any muscle does with exercise. High tension and jaw clenching during sleep, under stress, or habitually, produce the same effect.
How this changes over time
In some people the masseter is genetically large, with significant bulk even without any functional overuse. In others, a history of grinding has produced progressive enlargement over years. The two causes can also coexist in the same person.
The effect on facial appearance is a squarer, wider lower face. In some clients this is pronounced and creates a significant imbalance with the upper and mid face. In others it is mild and the concern is primarily functional (jaw tension, morning soreness, headaches) rather than cosmetic.
About Cheltenham
Cheltenham is one of Melbourne’s most accessible bayside suburbs, with Southland Shopping Centre anchoring its retail offer and easy connections along both the Frankston train line and Warrigal Road toward the broader south east. The PARC Cheltenham leisure centre draws an active, health conscious demographic, and the suburb’s residents value practical quality in their professional service choices. Core Aesthetics is a straightforward 15 to 20 minute drive north along Warrigal Road, and many Cheltenham clients combine their appointment with a stop at the Chadstone or Carnegie area on the way.
Is Masseter Treatment Right for You?
Masseter treatment is not appropriate for every wide or squared lower face. The width can be driven by muscle bulk, by the underlying bony structure of the mandible, or by a combination of both. Anti wrinkle product reduces muscle bulk. It has no effect on bony structure.
Likely to benefit from masseter treatment
Width is primarily from muscle bulk. You notice the masseter is palpable and prominent. You have a history of grinding or clenching. Lower face width increases when you clench.
May have limited benefit
Width is primarily bony in origin. The lower face is wide even without visible muscle. The jaw angle itself (not the muscle over it) is the primary driver of the shape.
Corey Anderson assesses muscle size and activity during the clinical examination and gives an honest assessment of what masseter treatment can and cannot achieve for the individual before any treatment is recommended.
The Treatment Process at Core Aesthetics
The masseter assessment begins with Corey Anderson palpating the muscle at rest and during active contraction, asking you to clench your teeth to assess the full muscle volume. This physical examination is important because masster size cannot be reliably estimated from external appearance alone.
The appointment experience
Treatment involves a small number of precisely placed injection points into the muscle belly on each side. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. Topical anaesthetic is not typically required, though it is available if preferred.
The muscle does not reduce immediately after treatment. The prescription product gradually reduces neural signals to the muscle over the following weeks. Visible slimming typically begins at four to six weeks and the full effect is seen at eight to twelve weeks. A review appointment at that point allows Corey Anderson to assess the result and plan any follow up if needed.
What to Expect from Ongoing Treatment
Most clients require two to three treatment sessions over the first year to achieve their goal. The initial dose addresses the existing muscle bulk. As the muscle softens with consistent treatment, subsequent sessions often achieve the same effect with lower doses.
Duration of effect for masseter treatment is typically four to six months, but can extend with consistent treatment as the muscle learns to contract less forcefully over time. Clients who maintain regular appointments often find the interval between sessions gradually extends over years.
First session
Initial reduction. Higher dose to address existing bulk.
Second session
Further reduction. Dose often adjusted based on response to first treatment.
Maintenance
Consistent softened appearance. Lower maintenance dose. Longer intervals over time.
The Functional Dimension
For many clients, masseter treatment also provides meaningful relief from grinding and jaw tension related symptoms. Reduced morning jaw soreness, fewer tension headaches, and less daytime clenching are commonly reported as secondary benefits.
At Core Aesthetics, this is discussed at consultation in the context of the individual presentation. The treatment is assessed and recommended as a cosmetic injectable treatment. Any discussion of functional symptoms is part of the individual assessment and history, and does not replace appropriate dental or medical management of bruxism.
Downtime and Aftercare
Masseter treatment has minimal downtime. Some clients experience mild soreness or tightness in the jaw area for two to three days. Avoiding very hard chewing (crunchy or chewy foods) for 24 hours is recommended. Most clients return to normal activities the same day. There is typically no visible bruising or swelling at the injection sites.
Full aftercare instructions are provided at the treatment appointment. A review at eight to twelve weeks is standard at Core Aesthetics to assess the slimming result and plan next steps.
